Slough Masters launch a great success,

Last night saw the official launch of the Slough Masters, at a reception held at the Slough offices of sponsor Kinnarps. And the unique Slough Masters prize, the Scarlet Jacket, was revealed for all to admire.

Among more than 70 guests were the mayor of Slough, along with representatives from key businesses in the town and event supporters, including Kinnarps, United Business Machines, SEGRO, Canon UK, Harris Cartier and the Slough Chamber of Commerce.

The event also saw more teams sign up to play in the Masters, and further interest from local businesses in sponsoring holes at the event.

Setting new standards in the region for golfing events, the Slough Masters aims to become an annual fixture in the business and sporting calendar. And, for 2009, participants in the masters are expecting to raise £16,000 for local charity SHOC – Slough Homeless Our Concern.

The Slough Masters is scheduled for Wednesday 23 September, and will take place at the historic Burnham Beeches Golf Club, just north of central Slough.

Already key businesses from Slough are coming on board to support the Slough Masters initiative:

  • SEGRO, owner of the Slough Trading Estate, has committed its support to the event
  • Workplace furniture specialist Kinnarps has agreed to sponsor the event
  • Office document specialists United Business Machines has pledged to assist in making the event a huge success.

The Slough Masters will have a celebrity element; former England and Crystal Palace footballer John Salako, who is now a Sky Sports presenter, happens to be an Uphoria ambassador. “I'll be playing the Slough Masters,” says John, “and I may just be encouraging a few celebrity friends along to help make up the teams.”

During the months leading up to September, the Uphoria team will be asking Slough businesses for their commitment to support and enter the Slough Masters. The entry of a four-person team into the masters is an ideal opportunity for local companies to network with clients and partners while out on the course, and provides further opportunities to meet key new contacts either side of their round of golf, as well as at the evening reception and dinner.

The sponsors will also be asking local businesses to support this charitable event in a number of ways; from sponsoring individual holes and spot competitions, to providing suitable items for an auction to be held during the evening.

This autumn, the Slough Masters could prove to be a pivotal event in the mindset of those business people who can see their way out of the downturn through effective networking, and by working with local partners to mutual success.
